Wir sind Melopea. Fünf junge Musiker, fast alle unterwegs in Musikberufe. 2008 haben wir diese Band als Rockabilly-Quartett unter dem Namen Shaking Shoes gegründet. Unsere ersten Proben fanden in einem winzigen Raum statt und ein Lautsprecher und ein Gitarrenverstärker mussten genügen. Mit Gitarre, Kontrabass, Schlagzeug sowie Keyboard und Gesang spielten wir den Rock’n’Roll und Rockabilly der 50er-Jahre. In der Aula Junkholz in Wohlen AG organisierten wir unser erstes Konzert und staunten nicht schlecht, als sich 200 Leute einfanden. Bald konnten wir weitere Konzerte spielen und uns in der Region etablieren. 2010 veranstalteten wir eine aufwendige „Rock’n’Roll Show“ mit Comedy-Elementen. 2011 bekamen wir die Chance mit der Hilfe von Kulturförderern eine CD aufzunehmen (Rock’n’Roll for Dinner), welche mit einer multimedialen „Album Release Show“ getauft wurde. Das nächste Highlight folgte im März 2012, als wir als Vorband für die 70ies Glam Rock Legende T.Rex spielen durften.

Über die Jahre wurden wir von verschiedenen Bands inspiriert und es entstanden immer mehr eigene Songs, was dazu führte, dass wir uns 2012 neu positionierten und seither nur noch Eigenkompositionen spielen. Durch die verschiedenen Einflüsse wurden die Songs immer vielseitiger und es wurde schwierig sich als Rockabilly-Band Shaking Shoes zu präsentieren. Aus diesem Grund begannen wir unsere Musik als Art Rock zu bezeichnen. Art Rock erlaubt uns, die unterschiedlichsten Musik-Stile in unsere Songs einfliessen zu lassen und steht für den Spirit vergangener Zeiten, als Rockbands noch die Welt veränderten. Nach einer intensiven Zeit des Arrangierens und Übens neuer Songs, zog es uns im August 2013 ins Studio. So entstand im Startrack Studio in Schaffhausen während einer konzentrierten Woche unser Album “mindgarden”. Nach dem Namenswechsel zu Melopea und der Ergänzung um den früheren Dirty Venus Gitarristen Acid Ade tauften wir die Scheibe im Frühjahr 2014.

We are Melopea – five young musicians, most of us on our way to careers in music. In 2008 we founded this band as a rockabilly quartet under the name Shaking Shoes. Our first rehearsals took place in a tiny room, equipped only with a guitar amp and a loudspeaker. With guitar, double bass, drum kit, keyboard and vocals we pursued our dream of playing the rock’n’roll and rockabilly of the 1950ies. In the assembly hall of a local school in Wohlen (Switzerland) we organised our first concert and were quite surprised to welcome around 200 people. Soon we got to play more gigs and could establish ourselves in the region. In 2010 we staged an elaborate “Rock’n’Roll Show” with comedy elements. With the help of cultural sponsoring we got the chance to record a CD in 2011 (Rock’n’Roll for Dinner), which was launched with a multimedia-based “Album Release Show”. The next highlight in our young career was in March 2012, when we could play as support act for the 70ies Glam Rock legend T.Rex.

Over all the years we were inspired by many different bands and more and more own songs started to develop which led to a re-positioning in 2012 – since then we only play our own songs. Due to the wide influences, our songs started to become more eclectic and complex and it got more difficult to present us as the rockabilly band Shaking Shoes. For this reason we started using art rock to describe our music. Art rock allows us to incorporate a myriad of genres into our songs and stands for a spirit long time gone, a spirit of a time where rock bands did still change the world. After an intense time of arranging and rehearsing our new songs, we went to the studio in August 2013. During a focused week our current album “mindgarden” came to life at the Startrack Studio in Schaffhausen. After changing our name to Melopea and adding second guitarist Acid Ade (ex. Dirty Venus) to our line-up we released “mindgarden” in early 2014 – as before with a complex show (see videos).
